If you were around in the seventies, you probably remember the trend for purple rugs from those days. Well, what goes around, comes around because purple is very much back in vogue and is being displayed by all the best interior design stores and magazines. You will be pleased to know that this time, however, it is not always mixed with psychedelic colors and geometrically patterned wall paper. Although you might still find retro rugs which would be at home in that environment, contemporary purple rugs are not quite the same as they were. In fact, here are three types of purple rug that were not found back then, which are in fashion today.
1. Leather
Although there were plenty of shag rugs around back in the day, there is a new trend these days for creating shag rugs with leather or suede strips rather than wool or other fabric. If you choose a purple rug in leather, your look will be as contemporary as you can get and very far removed from the seventies.
2. Bathroom Rugs
There was a tendency in the seventies and eighties for the whole bathroom to be fitted out with a colored bath tub, sink and toilet, which might very well have been dark purple or aubergine in those days. The new trend is for a white colored neutral bathroom and to add purple only in the form of accessories. A purple bath rug is a way of adding a bright color to your bathroom now and not chosen just because it is the same shade as your bath tub!
3. Outdoor Rugs
In the last few years and with advances in technology which make such things possible, there has been quite a trend for using outdoor rugs on your patio. In the seventies, you would have never put your purple rug outside and left it there to get wet when it rained. Now you will find a selection of outdoor rugs in every color including purple to enhance your garden.
