As with any surgical procedure, liposuction is not particularly cheap and the advertised prices often do not include all the fees that will go into the final bill. Basically there are three categories of fees that every itemized charge can be grouped under. There is the surgeon’s fee which is often what you will see quoted on advertisements and what they will tell you over the phone to get you to come in. The rest of the bill will be made up of either anesthesia related costs or the facility fee also known as the hospital or overhead fee. The true liposuction surgery cost is the sum total of all these charges plus the health risk that cannot be easily assessed financially.
The surgeon fee is what the plastic surgeon will charge for his or her time and service. This is one of the common areas where the cost can be slashed with low cost plastic surgery clinics. These are often bad deals because that means the surgeon is lacking in one area of another which is why they are charging well below the market rate. It is important not to be cheap with this aspect of costs and get the best surgeon possible.
The anesthesia fee is the cost of the drug consumed to sedate the person or numb the area being treated. Usually a board certified anesthesiologist is required to administer the drug or be present for the administration. That will greatly increase the cost since these guys have to get paid too. Finally the facility fee includes everything from the use of the surgery room to the equipment to all other miscellaneous things the clinic feels like charging their patients for. This can include things like surgical garments worn for the surgery and the use of the hospital bed when you are resting after the procedure. It also any pre-surgical and post surgical care received.
